Hello everyone,
As a meditation and mindfulness teacher, I often draw parallels between the practice of mindfulness and the art of creating with clay. Both invite us to slow down, focus on the present moment, and engage our senses fully. Just as meditation encourages us to observe our thoughts without judgment, working with clay allows us to explore our creativity without pressure. The tactile experience of shaping and moulding the clay can serve as a powerful mindfulness practice, grounding us in the here and now.
In our fast-paced world, finding moments of mindfulness can be transformative, and pottery offers a unique pathway to achieving this. Engaging in the tactile process of working with clay not only fosters creativity but also has profound effects on your nervous system.
When you immerse yourself in pottery, the repetitive motions of kneading, shaping, and glazing can activate your parasympathetic nervous system, which is responsible for promoting relaxation and reducing stress. This shift allows your body to move out of the "fight or flight" mode, helping to lower cortisol levels and enhance your overall sense of well-being.
As you focus on the feel of the clay and the rhythm of your movements, your mind begins to quiet, providing a natural form of meditation. This mindfulness practice can lead to increased awareness, clarity, and a deeper connection to your creative self.
Join us at Pot Studios for our upcoming pottery courses and workshops, where you can experience the calming effects of clay firsthand. Let’s explore the art of pottery together and nurture not just our creativity, but also our mental well being.
The studio is now open from 10am - 3pm weekdays and for workshops on the weekend! Glazing is still available on Saturdays from 9-2pm.
Thank you for your continued support, and please drop in to see us soon!
Warm regards,
Cassale Sherriff Pot Studios
